Art. 1. The «Istituto di Musica
della Pedemontana» in Aviano/Pn has announced the organisation of the 11th
Luciano Gante Piano Competition, 4st international edition, which will be
held in Pordenone, at the Auditorium Concordia, from 23 to 26 October 2008.
The Competition is open to the pianists from every
country who on 31 December 2008 will be aged under 35. Winners of the first
prize in previous editions shall not be admitted.
Art. 2.
The candidates must send a (duble copy) video registration (cassette VHS or
DVD) during maximum 15 minutes of free programme. The registration must
include the «Studio di Chopin» indicated for the firstexamination of the
competition. The panel will select 25 candidates to admit at the competition
which will be held in Pordenone.
Every
candidate must sends a curriculum vitae which must include the following
information:
a. number of years of study;
b. names of the Institutions where the participant has studied;
c. names
of teachers with whom the participant has studied on an
on-going basis and the relevant periods of study;
d. date, place and final score awarded at the end of studies;
e. non-musical qualifications;
f. date, place and prizes won in piano competitions divided into:
a) competitions for different age categories, b)
national competitions,c) international competitions;
g. date, venue and company with which most important concerts
were held;
h. date, place and names of masters holding any short master
classes attended by the participant;
i. any teaching experience;
l. any other information.
The
candidates who don’t send the video registration or present curricula which
differ in any way to the outline given above or which are incomplete shall
be automatically excluded from the Competition.
Art. 3.
The Competition is based on two long-length examinations.
First
examination – All the competitors entered (no more than 25) must perform a
programme of maximum 45 minutes in length including:
a. a Sonata by Beethoven;
b. an Étude by Chopin from opus 10 or 25;
c. one or several pieces composed in the period by 1900/2000.
Final
examination – The Jury shall admit no more than 8 competitors who must
perform a concert programme of their own choice of a maximum of 60 minutes
in length, including a short interval of no more than 5 minutes in which it
is forbidden to perform any pieces included in the first examination.
Art. 4.
Main deadlines:
a. 19 September 2008, closing date for entries;
b. 2 October 2008, A maximum number of 25
candidates will be informed that they have been admitted to the competition;
c. 9 October 2008, participants telephone to confirm they
will be taking part;
d. 16 October 2008, all participants taking
part will be informed of the day and session in which they are scheduled for
the first examination, with performance in order previously established by
means of alphabetical drawing of lots;
e. 23 October 2008, competition begins.
Art. 5.
Candidates must send in their duly completed entry forms by
19 September 2008 (the postmark shall be taken as proof),
to the Competition secretariat, with the following
documents attached:
a. photocopy of valid identity card;
b. video registration (VHS or DVD) as provided from the article 2;
c. detailed curriculum vitae, including all the information set out
in art. 2;
d. entry fee of 50.00 euro to be paid by money order or Account
Payee only cheque made out to:

e. three photographs in CD rom (JPEG).
Art. 6.
In the event of failure to pay the entry fee, the candidate shall not be
admitted to the Competition.
Art. 7.
Candidates must be present at the time, date and place of which they shall
be informed by the secretariat on 16 October 2008 for the performance of the
first examination. Each examination day shall be divided into two sessions,
one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and all candidates shall be
informed of the day and time of the session in which they have been entered.
All candidates must arrive for the beginning of their session. At the start
of each session, a roll-call will be made of the participants, any candidate
not present at this roll-call shall be automatically excluded from the
Competition.
Art. 8.
Candidates must present themselves at the beginning of their
examination in possession of a document proving their
identity.
Art. 9.
Examinations will be open to the public.
Art. 10.
The performance must be played from memory, variations to the programme
presented shall not be accepted.
Art. 11.
The Panel may interrupt the candidate’s performance in the event that the
maximum time limit set is exceeded.
Art. 12.
The special prizes for the best performance of the Beethoven Sonata,
Chopin’s Étude and piece composed after 1900 shall be awarded for the
performance of the first examination, only to competitors who have gone
through to the finals. For candidates performing more than one piece
composed after 1900, these must indicate on the entry form with which of
these pieces they intend to compete for the relevant prize. If candidates
think they may exceed the time limit set for the first examination, they
must first perform the pieces that will be competing for the special prizes.
Art. 13.
The prizes may not be awarded if the Panel considers the level of the
candidates insufficient. All the prizes except the First, may be awarded to
more than one person, with the prize to be shared out as a consequence
between the equal winners.
Art. 14.
The Panel’s decision shall be final.
Art. 15.
The winners must perform free of charge, on penalty of annulment of the
prize, in the prize-giving concert which will be held on the afternoon of
26th October 2008. The concert programme and order of performance shall be
set by the Jury and no variations to this programme shall be accepted, on
penalty of annulment of the prize.
Art. 16.
In the event that audio or video recordings are made of the performances,
competitors may not request any fee whatsoever.
Art. 17.
An appropriate number of study pianos shall be made available to the
competitors for the entire duration of the Competition.
Art. 18.
It will be possible to briefly try out the instrument on which the
performance will be held, at times reserved for that purpose by booking with
the secretariat of the Competition, the day before the examinations begin.
It will not be possible to try out the instrument while the Competition is
being held therefore candidates who do not intend to book a testing of the
instrument on 22 October are aware that they will not be able to try out the
instrument.
Art. 19.
The Jury is composed of seven members, the majority of whom are not Italian.
Art. 20.
Persons related in any way whatsoever to members of the Jury may not enter
the Competition. Neither may persons enter the Competition who have, or have
had in the three years preceding the beginning of the examinations, any
teacher-student relations of any kind whatsoever (public or private) with
members of the Jury. At the time of installation, each member of the Jury
shall issue a statement confirming the inexistence of situations which are
in conflict with this article.
Art. 21.
In the event that this is considered fit, the Art Direction reserve the
right to make modifications to the regulations.
Art. 22.
Entry to the Competition implies unconditional acceptance of these
regulations. In the event of incorrect interpretation of the announcement,
reference shall be made to the Italian version.
The Law
Courts of Pordenone shall have jurisdiction in the event of all disputes.
