"LUCIANO GANTE" INTERNATIONAL PIANO
COMPETITION - XIV EDITION - 2010
Article 1. To honour the memory of the
famous pianist and Trieste teacher, who died in 1993, the "Luciano Gante"
XIV International Piano Competition will be held in Pordenone, at the
Concordia Auditorium, from October 21 to 24, 2010. The Competition is
open to all pianists, from all countries, that on the date of December
31, 2010, are not more than 35 years old. The first place winners of
the last edition are not allowed to participate.
Article
2. The Competition that will be held in Pordenone, will have 25
limited places available. In order to be pre-selected, the competitors
must submit a video recording together with the documentation that is
requested. All the entries will be examined by the Artistic Director,
who may request additional information from the competitors, if it is
felt necessary.
Article 3. The competitors must have
their entry form submitted to the Competition's secretary by Monday
September 6, 2010 (postal date stamp must have this date as the
latest). The entry form must also include the following attachments:
a)
completed information sheet (attachment "a" of the entry form)
b)
curriculum vitae
c)
video recording
d)
photocopy of an identification card with photo, or of a valid passport
e)
three professional photographs with signature on the back
f)
receipt of the 50.00 euro entry fee, paid by money order or
nontransferable check to:

Entry forms that are incomplete or missing the above indicated
attachments, will not be accepted.
Article 4. After the Pre-Selection, the
Competition consists of two, long-running, public performances.
Pre-Selection - All the competitors must submit by Monday September 6,
2010, the entry form and a video recording (DVD or VHS) containing the
performance of a program, not longer than 20 minutes, of the following
items:
a.
a Chopin Etude from opus 10 or opus 25
b.
one or more free choice pieces.
All
the competitors must submit, preferably by e-mail (to
lucianogante@gmail.com),
also an audio copy, in .mp3 format of the above mentioned recording.
By
Tuesday September 21, 2010, one month before the public performances in
Pordenone, the names of the 25 competitors will be announced.
First
Test - All the selected competitors (not more than 25) will perform a
program, not more than 45 minutes, which will include:
a. a
Beethoven Sonata;
b.
the same Chopin Etude from opus 10 or opus 25, that was part of the
video recording for the Pre-Selection;
c.
one or more musical pieces composed between 1900 and present day.
Final
Test - The Jury will select a maximum of 8 competitors, that will
perform a free choice program of 55 to 60 minutes, including a brief 2 -
3 minute break. Pieces that were already performed in the First Test,
will not be allowed.
Article 5. At the end of the Final Test,
the names of winners who will receive the following prizes will be
announced:
1st
Prize: 6,000.00 euro, a Diploma and 5 concerts - Prize is granted by
the Cultural Department of the Provincial Government of Pordenone.
2nd
Prize: 2,500.00 euro and a Diploma.
3rd
Prize: 1,200.00 euro and a Diploma - Prize is granted by the Cultural
Department of the Municipal Government of Pordenone.
Special Prize "Enrico Belfiore", for the best performance of a
Beethoven Sonata: 2,000.00 euro and a Diploma.
Special Prize "Chopin", for the best performance of an Etude: 500.00
euro and a Diploma.
Special Prize ‘900, for the best performance of a musical piece composed
after the year 1900: 500.00 euro and a Diploma.
Special Prize "F.I.D.A.P.A.", for the best female competitor: 500.00
euro and a Diploma - Prize is granted by the F.I.D.A.P.A. of Pordenone.
Article 6. When the communication of the
pre-selected competitors is made, they will be required to confirm their
presence at the Competition in a way, and in a time, that will
be indicated.
Thursday October 21, 2010, at 9:00 am, is the start of the First Test,
that will take place in front of an audience, in the Concordia
Auditorium (Via Interna - 33170 Pordenone). The testing days will be
divided between a morning and afternoon session. Each competitor will
receive communication a few days before the testing starts, regarding
which day and which session time they will perform in. All the
competitors must be present 30 minutes before the starting time of their
session, in order to take their presence. In case of an absence at the
allotted session, the competitor will be automatically excluded from the
Competition. No late excuses will be accepted, and all those who are
not present and available, according to the indications given, will lose
their opportunity to participate in the Competition.
Article 7. For the entire length of the
Competition, there will be a suitable number of pianos available to
the competitors for practice.
Article 8. By reserving a specific time
set by the Competition secretary, it will be possible, the day before
the testing, to briefly play the piano that will be used in the
Competition. For technical reasons, due to the time necessary for the
tuning and maintenance, it will not be possible to test the piano during
the Competition. Therefore, the competitors that do not intend to
reserve the opportunity to use the piano on October 20, 2010, are aware
of the fact that they will perform without playing the instrument
beforehand.
Article
9. Before starting their Competition Testing, the competitors will
be required to submit an identification document with a photo, and three
copies of the music they will perform.
Article 10. The musical pieces must be
performed by memory. Any variations to the program must be communicated
in writing at least 5 days before the start of the Competition. After
October 16, 2010, no variations to the program presented will be
accepted.
Article 11. The Judges can interrupt the
competitors performance if the length is beyond the maximum time
allotted.
Article 12. The Special Prizes, for the
best performance of a Beethoven Sonata, a Chopin Etude, and a musical
piece composed after the year 1900, will be judged during the
performance of the First Test of the competitors that are selected for
the Final Test. If a competitor performs more than one musical piece
composed after the year 1900, they must indicate on their entry form,
which piece they intend to use when competing for this prize. A
competitor that goes beyond the maximum time allotted, without entirely
completing the obligatory musical pieces, established in the rules for
the Special Prizes, will be automatically excluded from the Competition.
Article 13. If the competitors'
performances are not considered adequate by the Judges, the prizes may
not be assigned. In the case of equal merit, the prize will be divided,
except for the 1st place Prize.
Article 14. The decision of the Judges is
final.
Article 15. At the Prize Awarding
Concert, that will take place on Sunday October 24, 2010, the winners
must perform free of charge, else their prize will be annulled. The
program of this Concert and the order that the performances will take
place, will be established by the Judges after announcing the
winners. No variations to the program will be allowed, else the prize
will be annulled.
Article 16. If audio or visual recordings
are made of the performances, the competitors can not ask for any
compensation.
Article 17. The Jury will be composted of
seven pianists who play in Italy and abroad. The names will be made
public by Wednesday April 21, 2010, six months before the Competition.
The names may be changed after this date, due to unseen circumstances.
Article 18. People who are relatives or
have ties with members of the Jury, can not apply for the Competition.
Also not allowed to apply for the Competition, are people who presently
are, or have, during the last three years before the First Test, any
teaching experience (public or private) with members of the Judging
Panel. When the Jury is established, each member will sign a declaration
that will confirm that there exists no situation that is in conflict
with this Article.
Article 19. The Artistic Director, when
it is deemed appropriate, reserves the right to make changes to the
rules.
Article 20. These complete rules, the
entry form, the "a" attachment, the names of the Judging Panel, and any
other information regarding the Competition, are available on the
Internet site
Article 21. Subscribing to the
Competition involves unconditionally accepting these rules. In the event
of an incorrect interpretation of the rules, the Italian version of the
rules will be referred to. For any dispute, the competent court will be
the Court of Pordenone.
